If you’re looking for free printable Christmas colouring pages, you’ll want to make sure that they’re safe for kids. While many of the Christmas-themed images on coloring pages are great for families and classrooms, some of them include branded media or holiday symbols that may not be appropriate for young children.
I’ve been looking at ColoringPagesTools.com for a new collection of Christmas colouring pages. It’s a collection of original designs rather than ones with brands like Coca-Cola, Starbucks, etc. So if you’re looking for something family-safe, these should work well.
Here are some examples of the types of Christmas colouring pages I’d include: snowmen, reindeer, Santa, elves, gingerbread men, mittens, hot cocoa, snowflakes, trees, ornaments, stockings, gifts, wreaths, and cozy winter scenes.
Printable library pages are available in downloadable A4 or US Letter PDF format, and I’ll share the Christmas PDFs once the collection is ready.
I’ll point you to the Christmas collection here once it’s published.
Once you have your Christmas colouring pages—either from the generator or from the collection when it’s published—it’ll be time to get creative! Whether you’re looking for something fun to do with the kids this holiday season, or you’re trying to keep your little ones busy while you finish up last-minute holiday shopping, there’s no shortage of things to do with colouring pages!
But before we dive into how to use colouring pages with kids, let’s talk about what kind of colouring pages are best suited for different ages and levels of detail.
Free Printable Christmas Colouring Pages by Audience
The same colouring page design might be perfect for one age group, but too simple or too detailed for another. If you’re looking for Christmas colouring pages for adults, you probably won’t want anything with large areas of solid color (like trees) because they’ll be hard to color.
And if you’re looking for Christmas colouring pages for kids, then you probably don’t want anything that’s too intricate either. But just because something is “too intricate” for one age group doesn’t mean it’s not suitable for another. The key is to know your audience and choose accordingly.
So here are some ideas for which type of Christmas colouring pages would be best suited for each audience:
Kids and Adults – Simple broad-line motifs such as snowmen, reindeer, Santa, elves, gingerbread men, mittens, hot cocoa, and snowflakes.
Older Kids and Adults – Detailed intricate options such as trees, ornaments, stockings, gifts, wreaths, winter scenes, and other generic original designs.
Free Printable Christmas Colouring Pages by Detail Level
If you’re looking for Christmas colouring pages for younger kids, you probably want something with very few details. These will help them focus on the big picture, and it won’t overwhelm their small hands.
On the flip side, if you’re looking for Christmas colouring pages for older kids or adults, you probably want something that’s more detailed. This gives them a challenge and allows them to really get creative with their coloring.
And if you’re unsure where to start, just look at the difficulty label. You can usually tell right away if the image is going to be easy or difficult to color.
Free Printable Christmas Colouring Pages by Paper Size
When printing out colouring pages, it’s important to make sure that you print them on paper that’s the correct size. For example, if you’re printing an 8.5 x 11 inch sheet, you’ll want to make sure that your printer tray is set to US Letter size. If you’re printing an A4-sized sheet, you’ll want to make sure that your printer tray is set to A4 size.
This goes hand-in-hand with the paper size choice when downloading your printable colouring pages. Most people print on standard 8.5 x 11-inch paper, but others prefer to choose the download that best matches their printer setup. Just make sure that you select A4 or US Letter when downloading your printable colouring pages.
Free Printable Christmas Colouring Pages by Subject
Some people prefer to stick with traditional Christmas subjects like trees, ornaments, stockings, gifts, and wreaths. Others prefer to go with generic original designs. And then there are those who love nothing more than finding the most unique Christmas colouring pages possible.
