Every design here is a simple autumn picture with thick, rounded outlines and an empty background, sized for small hands and fat crayons. Most of the objects have been turned into little characters with dot eyes and a smile: the oak leaf and its acorn, the maple leaf, the pumpkin leaning on a leaf, the twin acorns, the apples in their basket, the mushroom and acorn pair, and the pear beside the apple. A few skip the faces and show the plain object instead, such as the open umbrella over two fallen leaves, the pumpkin sitting in a slatted basket and the big sunflower on its stem. Two animals round out the set: a hedgehog trotting toward a leaf and a squirrel holding an acorn against its chest. The busiest areas a child meets are acorn caps drawn as a criss-cross grid, the weave of the apple basket and the hedgehog's spines; everything else is a wide open shape. That makes the set easy to hand out in a mixed class, where some children finish in minutes and others add patterns of their own.
The easiest starting point for a fall week, with one or two shapes per sheet and almost no small parts.
Apples, a pear and a pumpkin in or beside baskets, handy for talking about what gets picked in autumn.
A squirrel clutching its acorn and a hedgehog on the move, an easy way into a talk about how animals prepare for the cold.

A short leaf hunt works well: children gather leaves outside, then pick crayons that match. The oak leaf, maple leaf and acorn designs here show the kinds of things they may find on the ground.
Squirrels gather acorns and other nuts in autumn and bury or store them to eat in winter, when food is scarce. The squirrel design here holds its acorn close, which makes a simple picture for that conversation.
Many do: the European hedgehog fattens up in autumn and then hibernates through the cold months. The hedgehog on this page is still out walking toward a fallen leaf, ready for browns and creams.
