These dragons spend their day doing what children do. One reads a book on a puffy cushion, one waters a potted flower, one kneads dough at a wooden bench next to a mixing bowl, and another bangs a drum on the grass. A scarf-wrapped dragon sits by a picnic basket and an apple. Others head outdoors: flying a diamond kite on a grassy hill, sailing a wooden boat over wavy water, standing in the rain under a striped umbrella, setting off with a backpack beside a leafy tree, or winking through a telescope under a crescent moon and stars. Indoors there is a block castle to finish and an easel holding a flower painting. The dragons share one look: round heads, big shiny eyes, short horns, striped bellies and small bat-like wings, often with spots along the back. Compared with the easiest dragons, each page adds a setting and several objects, so there are more parts to color and a few smaller spaces. The lines stay clean, though, and the dragon is always the biggest shape, which keeps the scene readable for a child of about five to eight.
Sky, water, grass or rain fill the background, so these take longer and suit kids who enjoy coloring scenery.
Dough, toy blocks, a paint palette and a watering can: dragons busy with a task, each with a tool to color.
