About these fox coloring pages

Every fox here is a young, round-faced cartoon fox with tall pointed ears, a fluffy tail and a zigzag line that marks off the white tail tip. The simpler pages keep the fox alone or next to one large object: curled asleep, lying on a plump cushion, peeking out of a woven basket, sitting by a toadstool, holding a leaf, or looking up at a butterfly. One shows a fox in true side view on slim legs, which is the closest to how a wild fox stands. The busier pages give the fox a quiet hobby and a few extra things to fill in: a patchwork scarf being sewn, a tray of leaf-shaped cookies, a picture book on a tree stump, a violin, a paper crane, clay pots of succulents and a tea table set for company. A few take the fox outside, rowing a little wooden boat, skipping rope, carrying a basket of berries or watering a row of mushrooms, and a pair of kits build a castle from blocks. Leaves, mushrooms and berries come up again and again, which gives the set an autumn woodland feel.

Coloring tips

  • A red fox is rusty orange on the head, back and tail, with white on the chin, chest and tail tip, and dark brown or black on the lower legs and the backs of the ears.
  • Leave the zigzag end of each tail white or cream; it is drawn as its own space so the orange can stop cleanly at the line.
  • For the cheek tufts and chest fluff, use short pencil strokes that follow the pointed fur shapes instead of one flat fill.
  • Want something other than red? Arctic foxes turn white in winter, and fennec foxes are pale sandy cream with very large ears.
  • Give the toadstools a red cap with white dots and the leaves autumn yellows and oranges so they echo the fox's coat.
