01About

About this book

The book starts with a head-on portrait and a swimmer gliding sideways, then moves into small scenes: an axolotl sitting by a pebble, walking past a three-leaf water plant, hugging a ball, curled up asleep, peeking out of a scallop shell and meeting a snail. Later pages add a heart to hold, a lily leaf used as an umbrella, a mirror pair of tiny axolotls facing each other, and a cheerful wave to finish. Every axolotl has the same feathery gill stalks fanning out from its head, so a child who works through the book gets plenty of practice on that one repeating shape while the rest of each page stays simple. Bodies and tails are wide and open, with almost no inside detail, which suits crayons, chunky markers and first attempts at staying inside the lines. There are no backgrounds to fill, so each page is a short, finishable sitting.

Coloring ideas for this book

  • Pick one color family for the whole book, such as pinks, and change only the gill color from page to page.
  • Leave the body pale and press harder on the gill stalks so they stand out.
  • On the mirror-pair page, color the two axolotls as opposites: pink and blue, or light and dark.
  • Add a quick blue wash around the sleeping and shell pages to turn them into underwater scenes.

10FAQ

Questions about this coloring book

How do I download this coloring book?

Choose the A4 or US Letter PDF. The file contains all 12 pages in order. Downloading coloring books needs a free account; free accounts can download 1 book a day.

How should I print it?

Print at 100% or "actual size" in portrait orientation. Print one-sided if you plan to use markers, so ink does not bleed onto the next page.

Which age or skill level is this book for?

All pages in a book share one level: easy pages use big shapes, thick lines and little background, for ages about 3 to 6. Every page is also free to download on its own if you want to mix levels.

Can I see a page in color before printing?

Yes. Open any page from the book and choose Color with AI to paint it in a crayon, marker, watercolor, pastel, storybook or realistic style. AI coloring uses 2 credits and the result stays private to your account; the PDF itself stays black and white.

Can I add a name page to the book?

Yes. The free name coloring page maker writes any name in outline letters on a matching background. Download it as A4 or Letter and print it as the first sheet of the book.

Can I use the book with a class or group?

Library pages are free for personal, family, classroom and other non-commercial use. Reselling or redistributing the files is not allowed; see the License page for details.
