About these dog coloring pages

Several breeds are easy to spot on these dog pages: a corgi with tall pointed ears, a long low dachshund, a poodle with puffy clipped legs and a beagle with floppy ears and patches, alongside round-faced puppies of no special breed. The simplest dogs sit, stand or sleep alone on the sheet, sometimes with one object like a ball, a bone, a basket, a gift box or a bandana. A middle level gives the puppies small activities: baking bone cookies, watering daisies, flying a kite, pulling an apple wagon, reading on a rug and sailing a paper boat in a puddle. The third group is drawn in an anime style for teens, with larger long-haired dogs out in the world: running after a ball, jumping a puddle by a fence, posing on a stone bridge with a bird overhead, sitting under an umbrella or peering through a telescope. Those pages add grass, leaves and stones, so they take noticeably longer than the plain puppies.

Coloring tips

  • A beagle is usually tricolor: a black saddle on the back, tan head and legs and a white chest and tail tip.
  • Most corgis are red or fawn with white on the chest, legs and a stripe up the face.
  • Dachshunds often come in red or in black with tan points over the eyes and on the paws, so leave small spots for the tan.
  • On long-haired anime dogs, color the outer fur first in a light shade, then darken only the deep curls near the body.
